The Most Hardcore Birder Ever

This guy is the most hardcore birder ever. First, he's the first shirtless birder I can recall seeing out in the field. Second, I've seen plenty of birding tattoos and I'll probably get one someday, but this gentleman has taken it to the extreme. He had two hawks down either side of his ribcage which resembled a cross between an Osprey and a Red-tailed Hawk. His back held a huge set of wings that stretched from the middle of his back over the backs of his arms to his biceps. He also had a Native American Thunderbird on his ankle. All the tattoos were done very tastefully and very beautifully in "black and gray" technique. Do you have a bird-related tattoo? Please share in the comments.

I work with a woman who has the most spectacular nature-inspired tattoos imaginable--the artwork pushed me beyond the tattoo stereotype. I wish I had the guts to have one myself but, heck, I really do not want to pay for pain.
Love your sight--great photos and info!

No, I don't have one.

My current tattoo was obtained during my pre-birder days....

But my next one will be a design by the divine Julie Zickefoose....maybe a peregrine?

He looks like the rambo of birding. He looks like he's on a mission to spot another lifer. We need more dudes like this out there. I have no tattoos because I haven't really found one that blew my sox off.

Nice comparison Owlman! I'm with you though. I haven't found anything that jazzes me enough to stick it on my body permanently.

Mary, I love your owl tattoo!

I was looking to get a Great Auk tattooed on my back for my 30th birthday, but sadly it looks like it might have to wait a bit longer.

Wow! The bird on his ribcage looks like a Swainson's Hawk-which is how I found this page- searching for ideas for the tattoo I want to get, of a Swainson's Hawk! I have a thunderbird design on my back that I got before I started working with and really appreciating birds.

I have no tattoes yet, but my love Tommy has five, one of them (the one on his back) is a bird ;) it is an eagle grabbing a snake, it is just outlined in black.

As an "old" guy, all I can say is, "Ouch!" Why would anyone do this? Sorry, but it just doesn't turn me on.

Yep - a few years back I had three "Blue Geese" (of the symbol from the National Wildlife Refuge System designed by JN 'Ding' Darling) tattoo'd around my upper am in a band.
I also hope to have some cover work done soon over an older tattoo on my chest that will be woodpecker oriented (either a Pileated or an Ivory-bill)

I have a loon on the outside of my foot just above the sole (so it looks as though she is swimming on my foot). The loon has one baby on her back and 2 babies following behind her. The loon gives me a feeling of peace or being peaceful.
