That is one cool-looking butterfly!
True, it looks like a sunset over a mountain peak.
Corey, they're actually pretty common since they use oaks as host plants. They are quite small (smaller than a quarter), but can be found flitting about through much of the spring and summer. The hairstreaks in the east can be tough to ID, but many have distinct markings.
Jochen, right on! I never thought of it that way, but it definitely does.
Well, as long as they're always sitting upside down, I guess.
