Scared Owl

First off, let me say that I in no way approve of the actions of the people in this video. On the other hand, I thought the behavior of the owl was interesting. When scared, some species of owl will stretch their body to look like a tree branch. If anyone knows what kind of owl this is, please let me know. I think it might be a type of Screech Owl, but I'm not sure.

That poor, little owl. It's very interesting how he poses himself when he's scared though.

That's pretty horrible.
The bird is one of the White-faced Scops-Owls, Ptilopsis; I believe there are 2 species, both native to African savanna.

What idiots.
I noticed jesses on the owl, so this is an owl that belongs to someone, and they need their permit revoked.
Dumb a**es.

BTW: Our screech owls here do the same thing. They are very good at hiding. The ear tufts help break up the profile.

I've been looking all over the web for this birds ID, and now I know. Thanks. I don't think he's scared so much as being cautious when faced with what it thinks is some weird animal. Susan, maybe you should be more worried about all the owls still living in Africa who are killed for no other reason than superstition. I occasionally scare my cat, but if you ask her she will say it beats living in the alley.
