I used to live 5 minutes' walk from the Aasee, and spent a lot of time birding there. The proximity of the zoo caused the occasional confusion. One morning I was beside myself with excitement when I discovered a pair of Ferruginous Pochards (Ducks) on the lake; but then, as I watched, they lifted off the lake and fluttered over to the zoo, where they set down on one of the ponds and joined their fellows. Alas.
