Fun with Google Book Search

Wow, what rock have I been under? Google Book Search is too cool. The preview mode has a pretty good assortment of bird books including the Peterson Gulls of the Americas, Birder's Conservation Handbook, Birding in the America West, and many others. For many books, the previews are very detailed, but for many it is just one or two pages. Don't be fooled by the links that show a page number in the title. For many that is just the page that the preview starts on.

Also great for downloadable copies of old stuff. For example, Stone's The Birds of New Jersey, a volume of Wilson's American Ornithology, and Holland's The Moth Book.

And don't forget Gallica, which has Ridgway and tons of other ornithological handbooks on line: http://gallica.bnf.fr

Great stuff! I'd found some good stuff on there before (such as some John Burroughs), but never thought to look for more recent stuff.

And a big thanks to Jason for the Wilson volume. I had been looking for his species accounts, but to no avail.

I think Rick's comment is noteworthy too.
