Hi Patrick,
I have spent some more time with your "ratty warbler" and it seems there are two options:
a) Cape May Warbler molting from juv. to first fall plumage
b) Pine Warbler molting from juv. to first fall plumage.
What might be an argument for Pine and against Cape May is that the fresh yellow parts of the bird's breast are not streaked, which they should be in Cape May.
But still, an intriguing bird.
Jochen,
Thanks for putting forth the effort. I hadn't considered Pine Warbler. I wish I had some better shots of it. Thanks!
