World Series of Birding time!
It's that time of year again! NJ Audubon's World Series of Birding is this Saturday, May 12. Last year, our team, the Sandy Hook Bird Observatory Ocean County Wanderers, had a lackluster day birding Ocean County. This year, the brains behind our operation is having some health issues and we will not be competing in Ocean County. Instead, the team is doing a Big Day Stay at the Sandy Hook Hawk Watch platform.
I decided to opt out of the Big Day Stay and, instead, I am helping lead the Sandy Hook Century Run team. This team does a "Sandy Hook only" run and typically finds around 130 species – not bad for a 1700 acre peninsula. Anyone is able to participate on the Century Run team for a small "per bird" donation. We have about 30 people signed up already which means big bucks for the Sandy Hook Bird Observatory.
If you're interested in helping to sponsor our team, you can use this form. I'll be sure to take lots of pictures. Pray for good weather!

Good luck, Patrick! I always love doing birdathons and such. You planning a whole 24 hour thing, or just a partial day?
You can put my wife and I down for 10 cents a species. I'll fill out the form and email it to you.
Crap, I thought that was a fill-in-the-blank pdf. Hmmm... do you want to just put us down on your pledge sheet and then we'll send you our pledge? Or I can print out that form, fill it out and send it along, too. Let me know what you'd prefer.
Paul, thank you!!!! I will put your name down and you can just send me a check made out to "World Series of Birding". I'll post the total species count on Sunday or Monday. Email me at pbelardo_at_yahoo.com.
We'll be doing almost a full day - 5:00 AM - 9:00 PM or so. Dawn to night basically. Unfortunately, the parks service isn't very cooperative for night birding at Sandy Hook.
I'm bummed out cause I do the WSB with them every year, but it's full from what I hear!
Maybe I can talk Scott into letting me come along anyway.
If I could give the go-ahead, I would. I'm sure the could squeeze you in!
